CHARLESTON, Ill. – The Green Bay volleyball team closed out the EIU Panthers Invitational with back-to-back wins on Saturday over Bradley and Memphis. The Phoenix handed the Braves its first loss of the 2017 season Saturday morning (25-23, 26-24, 25-22) before returning to the court in the afternoon to defeat the Tigers (25-20, 25-23, 25-27, 25-20).
Green Bay 3, Bradley 0
Green Bay (3-0) used late surges in each of the games to pull out the three-set victory. Taylor Wolf led the way for the Phoenix with 12 kills in the match, followed closely by Lydia DeWeese and Roberta Todd who notched nine apiece.
Maddie Yoss once again directed a flawless offense for Green Bay and tallied 34 assists in the win. DeWeese and Taylor Wolf collected four and three blocks, respectively.
Green Bay 3, Memphis 1
After cruising to victory in the first two sets, Green Bay dropped its first set of the invitational, 27-25, to the Tigers before claiming the fourth set and finishing the tournament undefeated.
The Phoenix received double-digit kill contribution from Jessica Wolf (16), Roberta Todd (15), Taylor Wolf (12) and Lydia DeWeese (10) in the four-set match. Yoss turned in another shining performance with 46 assists while Vanessa Buman finished with a team-high 23 digs.
Todd added 13 digs to her 15-kill performance to record a double-double for the Phoenix.
Green Bay next action will come in the Michigan Invitational next weekend, when the squad heads to Ann Arbor for matchups with New Hampshire, Butler and host No. 16 Michigan.
Lydia DeWeese received tournament MVP and Taylor Wolf was named to the all-tournament team.
