OPPONENT OUTLOOK
New Hampshire (1-3) opened the season with a win before losing its final three matches at the Jack Kaiser Volleyball Classic in Queens, N.Y., hosted by St. John's University. Green Bay and New Hampshire have never faced. On Saturday morning, Green Bay will face an old Horizon League rival in Butler (3-1). The two teams haven't met since 2014 and the Phoenix has not beaten the Bulldogs since 2010. The main event of the weekend will come on Saturday evening when Green Bay takes on 19th-ranked Michigan (2-1), a team it's never met. The Phoenix faced a pair of ranked Big Ten teams last year, falling in five sets to No. 12 Ohio State and in straight sets to No. 3 Minnesota, and will look to take down the Wolverines in front of what should be a full house.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
After being named EIU Panther Classic Tournament MVP and helping her team start the 2017 season with a perfect 3-0 record, Green Bay volleyball senior Lydia DeWeese has been named Horizon League Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday. DeWeese led the Phoenix with 37 kills over 3 matches played (and only 10 sets overall), and connected on a scorching .423 hitting percentage. The native of Columbus, Ohio, currently ranks second in the Horizon League in hitting percentage and also racked up nine blocks over the weekend.
3-0 START, AGAIN
Green Bay opened up last weekend with a perfect 3-0 start, downing Eastern Illinois, Bradley and Memphis in Charleston, Ill. The team began last season 6-0 before dropping its first match. For the first time in program history, Green Bay has opened the season with a 3-0 or better record in back to back seasons. The Phoenix will aim to stay hot again this weekend against a tough field in the Michigan Invitational.
