INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team handed IUPUI its first loss in conference play on the road Monday night, defeating the Jaguars 60-34 at the Jungle to move into a tie for first place in the league.
Green Bay (15-2, 5-1) gave its welcome to IUPUI (13-4, 5-1) by locking down the Jags from the opening tip, allowing just seven points in the first quarter of play. It didn't go up from there for IUPUI, as the Phoenix continued its stifling defense well into the second frame and allowed only five points, leading things 34-12 as the teams stepped off the floor for halftime.
IUPUI finally reached double digits in a single quarter in the third, scoring 11 points after Macee Williams completed an and-one with 1:11 to play. The Phoenix still bested the Jags' in the quarter, however, adding 12 points to its tally with
Jessica Lindstrom adding five of her own.
The Phoenix continued its flight towards victory in the final period of action, opening with an 8-2 run in the first 2:29 to lead 54-25. Green Bay eventually went on to down IUPUI, 60-34, and move into a tie for first place in the Horizon League standings.
Allie LeClaire led the Phoenix with 20 points, the third time this season the senior has reached that mark, and shot a nearly perfect 8-for-9 from the field. The guard also finished 2-for-2 from beyond the arc, grabbed two rebounds and doled out two assists.
Jessica Lindstrom was also a big contributor to the Phoenix offense, scoring 15 points on 6-of-10 shooting and knocking down a trio of three-pointers to go along with a team-high seven rebounds.
Karly Murphy scored in double figures for the second-straight game and the seventh time this season, adding 10 points on a 5-of-10 shooting clip. The redshirt freshman also grabbed six rebounds and tallied four assists.
Green Bay shot above 50% for the fifth time this season at 51.1% (24-27), while limiting the Jaguars to just 10-of-40 from the field. The Phoenix also enjoyed a 50% (6-12) clip from downtown while IUPUI struggled at 10.5% (2-19).
Green Bay dominated inside against IUPUI, owning a 36-8 advantage and staying perfect in that category this season.
The Phoenix only held a slight advantage in the turnovers category, surrendering 13 to the Jaguars' 15, but made up for it with a 24-6 advantage in points off turnovers.
Green Bay continues its action on the road this Thursday, taking on Detroit Mercy at Calihan Hall at 6 p.m. CT.
