Green Bay Volleyball Picks Up Fifth-Straight Win Over Wright State, 3-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay Phoenix volleyball team (10-8, 5-1 HL) extended their win streak to five in a row this afternoon, sweeping their second match of the weekend, this time against the Wright State Raiders (9-9, 1-5 HL).

Green Bay 3, Wright State 0
The Phoenix were helped by their ability to nail more accurate shots, collecting two more kills than their opponents, but taking 15 less attempts than Wright State. Sophomore Ashley Sledge was truly fearsome with her .786 clip, putting down 12 kills in 14 attacks with only one error due to a Raider block.

Set one (25-20) started off slow for Green Bay, but the team showed their tenacity in the second half of the set by pulling off multiple scoring runs, the longest being a 7-0 run after being down by four points.

Set two (25-23) produced four ties as the teams went back-and-forth, with the Phoenix leading in the middle and being able to hold off at the end.

Set three (28-26) was easily the most dramatic game, highlighting a major comeback by Green Bay after being down by seven points, their largest deficit of the entire match. They were helped by four blocks and two service aces in the third set before sealing the deal.

Sophomore Taylor Wolf put up 18 kills today, only two short of the amount she executed just two days ago. This time though, she scooped up two additional digs, giving her a double-double. Junior Maddie Yoss also hit double-digits in assists and digs with 38 and 11, respectively. The defense was evenly split by seniors Austyn Everingham and Vanessa Buman, collecting 19 digs each, and a season-high for Everingham.

Next Game
The Phoenix will now enjoy two weekends of home matches at the Kress Events Center, with the upcoming weekend celebrating their alumni. The team will take on current league leaders Cleveland State on Friday at 6:00 p.m., followed by a 4:00 p.m. game against Youngstown State on Saturday.
