Top-Seeded Phoenix to Host Horizon League Volleyball Tournament This Weekend

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay Phoenix volleyball team claimed their first-ever regular season championship last weekend, defeating UIC in five sets on Senior Day. With the win, they earned the top seed in the upcoming Horizon League Tournament as well as the right to host. This home-court advantage should play to Green Bay's advantage, as they did not drop a single match on Phoenix turf this season, going 8-0.

Head coach Abbey Sutherland and her team will make their first appearance in the tournament on Saturday, November 17 at 3:00 p.m. in a semifinal round against the UIC Flames at the Kress Events Center in an effort to move on to the championship round. The winner of the Horizon League Tournament will receive an automatic bid into the 2018 NCAA Tournament.

A Season for the Books
This year's Green Bay volleyball team set program records for longest win streak (10 in a row) as well as the most league wins in a single slate (13), helping them clinch the regular season championship for the first time in history.

Although Green Bay served as the host site for the 2002 Horizon League Tournament, back when the host site was on a rotational basis, it has never been the No.1 seed. The Phoenix has only won one Horizon League tournament, which happened back in 2003 when GB upset No.1 seed Milwaukee as the No. 3 seed in Indianapolis.
