With Green Bay's win at UIC and IUPUI's loss to Milwaukee on Monday night, the Phoenix has secured its 20th-consecutive regular-season championship.
It wasn't the smoothest start for the Phoenix offense, allowing the Flames to score eight unanswered points and lead 8-2 with just over five minutes to play in the opening frame. Green Bay battled back to even after a steal from
Laken James which led to an
Allie LeClaire layup, knotting the game at 12-12.
It wasn't long before the Phoenix found its rhythm offensively as the second quarter began, piecing together a 12-2 run kick started by seven-straight points from
Jessica Lindstrom in the first two minutes. Green Bay's edge was 10 points when the teams left the court at halftime, 29-19, with Lindstrom scoring 18 points in the first half to lead all scorers.
After allowing just eight points to the Flames offense in the third, Green Bay had constructed a 21-point advantage, 48-27, as the teams headed to the final period. As the Phoenix defense locked down the Flames, its offense enjoyed its most productive quarter of action.
The Phoenix went 7-of-15 in the third and limited UIC to just 3-of-13.
Frankie Wurtz scored six of her seven points in the quarter and shot 2-of-3 from the field.
A 14-4 run to open the final frame helped seal the 66-37 win on the road for Green Bay, as the Flames faced an insurmountable 31-point disadvantage (62-31) with 3:28 to play. The Phoenix improved to 24-3 on the season and 14-2 in Horizon League play heading into the final weekend of the regular season.
LeClaire joined Lindstrom in double figures with 10 points and six rebounds in 27 minutes.
Lyndsey Robson scored seven points on a 1-of-4 effort from the field and went nearly perfect at the charity stripe, 5-for-6 in 22 minutes.
Green Bay dominated inside all evening, outscoring the Flames 38-12 in the paint and pulling down 39 rebounds compared to UIC's 27.
