Green Bay Earns Split in Pitchers' Duels at Detroit Mercy

DETROIT, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay softball team split a pair of pitching duels at Detroit Mercy (10-22, 5-6 HL) on Friday afternoon, falling 2-1 to open the day before bouncing back with a victory by the same score.

DETROIT MERCY 2 - GREEN BAY 1
The Titans would strike first in game one, touching home in the third inning after an error from the Phoenix defense allowed Jordan Manno to come around and score.

Green Bay (8-24, 5-5 HL) would knot the game at one-all in the in the sixth inning after a double to right-center from Morgan Bihun plated Katie Rossmann. The Phoenix nearly took the lead but a strong play from Detroit Mercy's defense led to an out at home and limited GB's total to only a single run.

A ground ball to second base got the Titans out of the jam, leaving the game tied at 1-1 headed into the bottom of the sixth.

UDM regained a lead it would not relinquish in the bottom of the sixth, scoring one run after Maddy Scarsella doubled down the left field line to score Courtney Gilbert.

Detroit picked up the 2-1 victory in the first game of the doubleheader, despite being outhit by Green Bay 7-5 in the matchup.

Elizabeth Pautz was in the circle for the Phoenix all six innings, scattering five hits, picking up seven strikeouts and allowing only a single earned run.

Mauser would enter the circle again for Detroit Mercy in the second pitchers' duel of the day, but this time Kayla Schwebke would be dealing for Green Bay.

In the top of the third inning, Green Bay would gain a 2-0 advantage courtesy of a two-run home run from the bat of Allie Hislope. Chyanne Onstad would touch home on the four-bagger, who reached base earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice.

As innings passed and the number of outs remaining dwindled for the Titans, UDM cut the deficit in half in the sixth inning after Gilbert singled to right field and brought Manno home.

The Phoenix defense held strong the final inning to seal a 2-1 victory and head home with a split on the afternoon. Green Bay's record improved to 5-5 in Horizon League play with the win.
