WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The fourth-seeded Green Bay men's tennis team had its season come to an end on Saturday afternoon, falling 4-0 to top-seeded Detroit Mercy in the 2018 Horizon League Tournament semifinals on the campus of Purdue University. With both teams battling the chilly and windy outdoor conditions, the Titans were able to secure a dramatic doubles point before cruising in singles play.

After Detroit Mercy won at No.3 doubles and Green Bay answered at No. 1 doubles, the match's first point would come down to No. 2 doubles. Both sides knew the importance of the point and GB was able to force the tiebreak at 6-6. The Titans would seal the deal and get the momentum, winning 7-3 in the tiebreak to earn the 7-6 win and a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
Singles competition was dominated by Detroit Mercy, who didn't play yesterday while GB defeated UIC. The Titans won the first set in all six singles matches, putting GB on the brink. GB then fell at No. 1 singles, No. 6 singles and No. 2 singles to wrap up play outdoors.

The lone bright spot for the Phoenix was Miles McDowall winning a tiebreak in No. 4 singles to give GB its only set win. 

The Phoenix finishes its season at 12-10 and an appearance in the tournament semifinals, one step further than last year. The program says goodbye to its lone senior, Florian Kraenzler, who earned Horizon All-League First Team honors each of the past two seasons. Kraenzler also helped the 2015 team capture the HL Championship.
