GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team took the diamond for the final time in the 2018 campaign on Sunday afternoon in Rochester, Mich., taking on Oakland to wrap up the regular season.
The Phoenix ended its season on a high note and defeated the Golden Grizzlies with a walk-off double in the 11th inning from the bat of senior
Alexis Otto.
In addition to Otto,
Allie Hislope and
Katie Rossmann dawned a Phoenix uniform for the final time in their careers and added the extra-innings win to their impressive resumes.
GREEN BAY 2, OAKLAND 1
The Phoenix found itself at a disadvantage after the fourth inning of play, when the Golden Grizzlies capitalized on a error by the Phoenix defense and brought Madison Jones home.
The fifth inning saw Green Bay the game at one-all after
Olivia Magaldi doubled to left field to score
Sonia Schubert. The sixth and seventh frames were scoreless for both programs, propelling the game into extra innings.
With two outs in the bottom of the 11th,
Marjorie Sloan turned in a quality at-bat and singled up the middle to give Green Bay a runner on with one of its seniors taking swings next.
Alexis Otto took advantage of the moment in what would be her final game as a Phoenix, hitting a double to left-center and allowing Sloan to score from first to seal a 2-1 victory for Green Bay in walk-off fashion.
Elizabeth Pautz, Kate Rossmann and
Kayla Schwebke split work in the circle for the Phoenix, with Schwebke being credited with the win after pitching four scoreless innings.
