GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Following another successful campaign in the classroom, the Green Bay women's basketball program collected the top spot in the nation on the WBCA Academic Honor Roll for the second-consecutive season.
It is the program's fourth-straight appearance on the honor roll and 14th overall, repeating as national champions of the classroom with a 3.753 team grade-point average for the 2017-18 season.
"We are extremely proud of the work our student-athletes put in on the court this past season, but equally important, the work they put in the classroom to receive this exceptional milestone of academic national champions for the second year in a row and the fourth time overall in the history of this prestigious award," head coach
Kevin Borseth said. "I want to especially thank the tremendous group of faculty we have at Green Bay who go above and beyond to ensure all of our athletes are getting a first-class educational experience. Becoming a national champion academically takes a village of people who care deeply for our athletes and also a group of athletes who are motivated to be the very best they can be both on the court and in the classroom. At Green Bay we are fortunate to have both."
Green Bay is one of six top-25 teams on the Division I honor roll who played in the 2018 NCAA Tournament. It is the fourth time in program history that Green Bay has received the top spot from the WBCA. Green Bay was one of three Horizon League women's basketball programs represented in the top 25 with Youngstown State and IUPUI finishing 10
th and 11
th overall, respectively.
"The WBCA is pleased to recognize those women's basketball programs that have committed themselves to excellence on the court and in the classroom," said WBCA Executive Director Danielle Donehew. "The 119 teams we honor this year strive to achieve all-around success and we commend their efforts. Congratulations!"
The WBCA Academic Top 25 recognizes NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and two-year GPAs inclusive of all student-athletes on their rosters for the entire season. The 2017-18 season is the 23rd in which the WBCA has compiled the honor rolls.
