Opponent Outlook
The Phoenix last saw Central Michigan in 2014, where they bested the Chippewas at their home court and brought the all-time record up to 4-5. This means that Green Bay is looking to tie up the record with this match. This year so far, Central Michigan is 2-4, taking two of those losses at home. Notably, they fell to Horizon League members UIC during their opening weekend, who currently are 4-2. Last year, the Chippewas qualified for their conference tournament, but fell in the first round to Western Michigan.
Green Bay currently owns a 3-1 winning record against Indiana State, but they also have not seen the Sycamores since 2006. This year, Indiana State is 4-2, and were defeated only by SEC members Tennessee and Horizon League members Oakland. Last year, their season ended in the second round of their conference tournament after being bested by former NCAA-qualifying #25 Missouri State.
Saint Louis is another team that hasn't met the Phoenix in many years. Prior to 2002, the last time SLU and Green Bay played a match, the Billikens owned a 0-8 record over Green Bay. That number may soon change, as SLU is currently 0-6. However, last year Saint Louis posted a conference record of 10-4, which means that strategically, they are used to taking on difficult teams early on in the season, and may be ready to grab a win of their own this weekend.
Last Weekend Recap
The Phoenix now own a record of 3-4 after taking the tournament championship last weekend at the Comfort Suites Jackrabbits Invitational hosted by South Dakota State. They beat Seattle University and the host team in straight sets, but narrowly missed grabbing a comeback victory against Weber State in the fifth set of that match. Sophomore Taylor Wolf was named Tournament MVP, while junior Maddie Yoss and sophomore Ashley Sledge were also selected for the All-Tournament team.
"At times, our team played some great volleyball last weekend," added Sutherland. "We are more aware of what we need to do offensively and defensively to find success. Win or lose, we are committing to our process of growth as a team, and we are excited to experience another weekend of challenges."
