Green Bay's Suffocating Defense Shuts Down Flames 62-32

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay welcomed UIC to the Kress Events Center this evening for the first of five straight home games, taking down the Flames 62-32.

Jen Wellnitz was all over the court tonight, doling out a season-high seven assists and swiping the ball a career-high nine times to tie for the third-most steals in a single game in program history. The Flames gave up the ball 25 times, which the Phoenix converted into 26 extra points.

Laken James led the team as the only player scoring in the double digits, going 5-for-9 in the paint for an even 10. However, the team was well-rounded as sophomore Lyndsey Robson and redshirt freshman Anna Brecht each grabbed nine points, while Meghan Pingel collected a career-high eight with help from two three-point field goals.

Green Bay's next matchup is this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against the IUPUI Jaguars. During pregame, the Phoenix will celebrate coach Borseth's 700 career win against Youngstown State on January 12. At halftime, Green Bay women's basketball alumni will return to the court for a special recognition, including an appearance from former head coach Carol Hammerle.
