GREEN BAY -- Green Bay took the floor for its first and only live exhibition game of the preseason on Monday night, staying out front of St. Norbert and coming away with the unofficial 79-72 victory at the Kress Center. The Phoenix had five players in double-figures, led by
Kameron Hankerson and
Trevian Bell with 16 points each.
GB led for 34:27 in the game, but the cross-town Division III team gave the home team all it could handle for two halves. SNC hit 10 3s in the game, with GB finishing 5-for-17 from long range. Three other players finished with 10 points for the Phoenix, including
ShanQuan Hemphill,
Amari Davis and
JayQuan McCloud.
The Phoenix forced 15 turnovers and seven steals, while receiving a 39-point effort from its bench. GB led by as many as 16 points in the second half and shot 43.9 percent (29-66) on the night.
The games will start to count towards the 2019-20 record a week from Wednesday, when the Phoenix travel to West Lafayette to take on the 23rd-ranked Purdue Boilermakers at Mackey Arena. Head coach
Linc Darner will make his return to Purdue, where he played four seasons before graduating in 1995.
GB and Purdue will tip at 6 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
