INDIANAPOLIS - The Green Bay women's soccer team nearly battled back from a 3-0 deficit on Friday night, falling just short at IUPUI, 3-2.
Green Bay netted both goals in the second half, with scoring strikes being delivered from Caitlin Hawley and Morgan Stenschke. Assists on the evening came from Alyssa Barnes and McKayla Kertscher.
Stenschke nearly knotted the score what would have been her second goal of the match in the 83rd minute when she redirected a shot just wide of the far post.
IUPUI successfully defended the relentless Phoenix press through the closing minutes, securing a 3-2 victory at home.
Green Bay closed with an 18-15 edge in shots and a 5-2 advantage on corner kicks.
IUPUI will await the remainder of Friday's results and will either host a home quarterfinals matchup on Monday night (Nov. 4) at Carroll Stadium, or will advance to the semifinals with a first round bye, should Oakland defeat UIC this evening.
Green Bay bids farewell to seniors Alyssa Barnes, Morgan Courier, Courtney Klatt, Payton Benzschawel, Kayla Minor and Emma Sloot.
Barnes and Courier were named to the Horizon League All-Academic Team on Friday as well.
