CHICAGO, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay is headed home from the Windy City following a convincing victory over Chicago State at the Jones Convocation Center on Saturday afternoon, 102-46. Green Bay surpassed the century mark for the second time this season in the win, marking the first time in program history the Phoenix has scored 100 points multiple times in the same season.
Green Bay won by a margin of 56 points, its fifth-largest margin of victory in program history.
After
Anna Dier won the tip for Green Bay in her first career start, the Phoenix never looked back. Green Bay soared out to a 9-0 lead in just the first two minutes of play. At the first media break, GB had increased its advantage to 14 points at 19-5, dominating the Cougars on both ends of the floor.
Lyndsey Robson knocked down a pair of free throws with 2:21 left in the first quarter to put Green Bay on top by 20 points, 27-7. The Phoenix closed out the opening frame with a 31-10 advantage and shot an impressive 68.4% from the field while forcing nine CSU turnovers.
Caitlyn Hibner led all scorers at the half with 17 points, only three shy of her career high set earlier in the season against Missouri, as the Phoenix led the Cougars 56-19. Green Bay was a perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line in the opening 20 minutes and held CSU to 6-of-28 (21.4%) from the field.
It was the highest scoring half for the Phoenix since the 2017 Little Caesars' Horizon League Championship Quarterfinals on March 4, when Green Bay poured in 60 points against Valparaiso in an 89-60 victory.
More of the same continued in the third quarter for the Phoenix, who found itself leading 77-33 as the teams headed to the final frame. Green Bay continued its dominance past the century mark, as the team worked to a 102-46 victory.
Hibner finished with a career-high 26 points and a career-high 11 rebounds in the victory, while finishing 10-for-13 from the floor and a perfect 5-of-5 from the line in 27 minutes.
Anna Brecht notched a new career high with 14 points on an efficient 4-6 shooting effort. Robson tied her career high with 18 points and tallied a new career mark with eight assists in the matchup. Patricia Gallasova recorded the first points of her Phoenix career as all nine players to take the floor for GB scored in the win.
Next up for Green Bay is a trip to Victoria, British Columbia, for three games in the Victoria Invitational. GB's first action in the invitational will come on Thanksgiving day against Bowling Green at 1 p.m. Depending on the result of the first game, the Phoenix will face either Mississippi State or San Francisco on Friday.
