VICTORIA, B.C. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay women's basketball team took the court at the University of Victoria in game one of the Greater Victoria Invitational on Thanksgiving Day against Bowling Green, handedly defeating the Falcons 73-54.

Green Bay grabbed an early lead in the matchup, but a 6-0 run from the Falcons knotted the game at 11-all. Back-to-back and-1s from Madison Wolf and Lyndsey Robson followed by a layup from Anna Dier sent the Phoenix into the second frame on an 8-0 run, leading 19-11.

The Phoenix advantage reached double digits, 24-13, when Patricia Gallasova buried a jumper on her first possession of the game with 6:45 remaining in the first half. Back-and-forth action in the final minutes, including a BGSU conversion on its final attempt from the floor sent Green Bay to the locker room with a 35-25 lead.

Green Bay dominated inside in the opening half, outscoring Bowling Green 24-11 in the paint while claiming a 17-16 edge in the battle on the boards. Both teams seemed to take care of the ball in the first 20 minutes and combined for only 11 turnovers, with the Phoenix owning the edge at 5-6.

The Falcons came out firing in the second half and buried two triples in the first 30 seconds of the third quarter, courtesy BGSU's  Caterrion Thompson and Madisen Parker. The Phoenix created a little more space before the conclusion of the quarter, leading things 52-43.

Bowling Green made things interesting after a pair of free throws from Mari Hill with 7:43 left made it a one-possession game, 53-51. Green Bay erased the Falcons' hopes from there on out with a 17-0 run and eventually worked to a 73-54 victory.

Frankie Wurtz tied her career high with 24 points and added a career-best 12 rebounds to lead the Phoenix in both categories.

The Phoenix moves to the winners' bracket and will face No. 10 Mississippi State tomorrow at 7 p.m. (CT).
