INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- For an unprecedented third time in five weeks to begin the 2019-20 season, Green Bay freshman guard
Amari Davis has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Monday. Davis was the first ever two-time winner of the award in program history, and his now a three-time winner of the weekly award for men's basketball this year. Since the award began in the 2013-14 season, Davis is the first Phoenix player to earn the award multiple times in a season.
Davis' week: Talented newcomer
Amari Davis has been named the Horizon League Freshman of the Week for the third time this season, the most freshman of the week awards for any player in Phoenix basketball history. Continuing to lead his team in scoring as a freshman while ranking sixth in the entire Horizon League, Davis is now averaging 15.3 PPG thanks to another strong week. Davis poured in a team-best 19 points on the road at Xavier in a physical and competitive game in Cincinnati. He continues to shoot the ball at an extremely high clip, shooting 57.4 percent from the field, which ranks second in the Horizon League. Davis ranks in the top 10 of all freshman scoring in the NCAA, and will play twice this week at UCF and home to Evansville.
Up next for Green Bay is a visit to Orlando and battle with UCF tomorrow night at 7 p.m. CT in Orlando.
