INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---
Laken James and
Jen Wellnitz have been dominant on the court for the Green Bay women's basketball team this season, but a recognition from the league office on Thursday morning saw the senior duo receive All-Academic team nods for their performances in the classroom.
Laken James leads the Phoenix in scoring through league play, averaging 12.1 PPG. James has also been a reliable defender for Green Bay and ranks fifth in the league in steals per game.
Jen Wellnitz has been a consistent contributor on both ends of the court but is revered for her defensive prowess and currently leads the league in overall steals and steals per game. Wellnitz also ranks seventh in program history in career steals and assists.
James is pursuing her master's in Applied Leadership in Teaching and Learning and has been a frequent member of UW-Green Bay's honor roll. Wellnitz is also pursuing her master's in Applied Leadership in Learning and teaching and is also no stranger to UW-Green Bay's honor roll. Both will graduate this coming May.
Four Horizon League institutions are represented among the seven honorees. Green Bay was joined by Youngstown State, Northern Kentucky and IUPUI with members on the all-academic team.
To be eligible for this consideration, a student-athlete must have a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.20 or higher (based on a 4.00 scale) and have completed at least one year at the member institution, having earned 24 semester-hour or 36 quarter-hour credits.
