The Phoenix will be making its first appearance in the Postseason WNIT since 2014 when it takes the floor against Kent State on Thursday at the Kress Center. Green Bay's record in the WNIT is 0-4 all time, but this will also be the first time in program history GB has been awarded a home game.

MEETING MILESTONES
Kevin Borseth in no stranger to reaching milestones and accumulating accolades throughout his coaching career, recently becoming the 10th coach in division I history to amass 700 career victories. Borseth reached another milestone in GB's HL Tournament quarterfinal win, this one pertaining specifically to his accomplishments with the Phoenix. Green Bay's win over Cleveland State was Borseth's 400th in his time at Green Bay. He became the second coach in program history to reach the milestone, the first was Carole Hammerle who amassed 456 in her time with the Phoenix.
Â
ALL-LEAGUE HONOREES
Two members of the Green Bay women's basketball team were honored by the Horizon League with postseason awards, as
Jen Wellnitz and
Laken James both received all-league recognitions. Wellnitz was honored with her second-straight Defensive Player of the honor, the only player in program history to earn the accolade multiple times. She was also named to Horizon League's first team for the first time in her career and received an all-defensive team nod for the third-consecutive season.
Laken James was named to the Horizon League's second team, the first all-league selection of her career.
Â
WINNING TRADITION
Green Bay has secured its 42nd-consecutive winning season this year and trails only Tennessee (45) for the longest active streak in the nation. Green Bay's streak includes 20-straight conference titles and 18 NCAA Tournament appearances. The Phoenix also secured its 20th-consecutive 20-plus win season this year, a streak that dates back to 1999-00.
Â
SECURING 1,000 PROGRAM WINS
During its 46 years in existence, the Green Bay women's basketball team has accumulated a total of 1000 victories, becoming the 10th division I program in history to reach the milestone. During those 46 seasons, three head coaches have graced the sidelines for the Phoenix, starting with Carol Hammerle in the 1973-74 campaign. Hammerle led the program for 25 seasons and accumulated 456 wins before passing the torch to
Kevin Borseth in 1998-99, who would go on to lead the Phoenix for 16 total seasons in two separate stints leading up to our present campaign. Borseth has racked up 401 wins with the Phoenix and continues to add to that number with each passing game. Matt Bollant took the reins from 2007-12, amassing 148 victories in five seasons and leading the program to an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen.
Â
LOCKING DOWN THE LEAGUE
Green Bay boasts the Horizon League's best defense statistically, allowing only 50.9 PPG to opponents in conference contests. The Phoenix has held its opponents to fewer than 50 points in nine league matchups, including four where GB allowed less than 40 points. The Phoenix currently ranks fifth in the nation in scoring defense with an average of 51.5 PPG.
Â
STEALING THE SHOW
Green Bay averages 9.41 steals per game which ranks first in the Horizon League. The Phoenix recorded a single-game conference high 20 steals against UIC (01/24/19).
Jen Wellnitz leads not only the team but also the conference in steals with 73 and steals per game at 2.8. Her mark of 2.8 SPG ranks 21st in the nation. Wellnitz also ranks seventh on GB's all-time steals list with 266.
Â
WELLNITZ WOWING
Not only does
Jen Wellnitz steal the ball on defense, but she also knows how to dish it out to her teammates on offense. She averages 3.5 assists per game which leads the team and ranks 6th in the Horizon League. Wellnitz has passed for 394 career assists which currently ranks for seventh on GB's all-time assists list.
Â
SECURING 700
Kevin Borseth sealed his 700th career head coaching victory against Youngstown State on Jan. 12. Borseth currently ranks 16th among active coaches in wins throughout all divisions of the NCAA, and he is the 29th coach in history to reach the 700-win milestone. Among active division I coaches with at least five years of division I coaching experience, Borseth's 713 wins ranks 10th in the nation.
Â
NONCONFERENCE NOTABLES
The Phoenix faced two Big Ten teams, three ranked opponents and six NCAA Tournament Qualifiers in its 10-game nonconference season, compiling a 5-5 record in the process. Green Bay earned national attention by taking No. 15 DePaul to the wire and defeating No. 16 Missouri. Missouri is the highest ranked road opponent ever defeated by Green Bay and the highest ranked team to fall at the hands of the Phoenix since No. 12 Michigan State in the 2011 NCAA Tournament, a win which propelled GB into the Sweet Sixteen. The Phoenix is 3-3 against teams that advanced to last year's NCAA Tournament.
Â
HOME SWEET HOME
Green Bay owns a 42-3 record in Horizon League play when taking the court at home since the 2014-15 season. This is due largely in part to the Phoenix fans that support their team. A Phoenix home game at the Kress Center draws an average of 2,004 fans which leads the Horizon League in home attendance.
Â
WINNING....SINCE THE BEGINNING
The Green Bay women's basketball team is one of three Division I women's basketball programs that has had a winning record every year since the NCAA took over administration of women's college athletics in the fall of 1981. Essentially, the Phoenix has never had a losing record in the NCAA era. There only two other programs to accomplish the same feat, Tennessee and Georgia.
