CARBONDALE, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay softball team started off the three-day Saluki Invitational on Friday, taking the field against the Big Ten Iowa Hawkeyes and the Butler Bulldogs.

The Phoenix (3-4) started off the weekend strong by defeating the Hawkeyes 6-4. The team tallied all six runs in the third inning, enough that Iowa was unable to catch up despite collecting four runs throughout the rest of the game.

Kayla Schwebke was in the circle for Green Bay to open the invitational, pitching for all seven innings. She only allowed six hits while striking out two batters.

Despite collecting six runs, impressively just seven hits were notched by the Phoenix offense. Bailey Schultz led the way with two of her own, in addition to one RBI. Samantha Soley also helped out Green Bay with two RBIs of her own.

The team later faced Butler, falling to the Bulldogs 11-0 in five innings.

The Phoenix returns to the diamond in the Saluki Invitational tomorrow afternoon for a matchup with hosts Southern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. The team will wrap up the weekend with two games on Sunday, the first at 10:00 a.m. against Miami Ohio and the second at 12:15 p.m. against the Hawkeyes once again.
