CLEVELAND, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay found itself on the losing end of a pair of one-run games on Saturday afternoon as the Phoenix opened up a three-game series at Cleveland State with a doubleheader against the Vikings.
Green Bay dropped the opening game, 4-3, before losing a pitchers' duel in game two, 1-0.
Cleveland State 4, Green Bay 3
Cleveland State owned a 4-1 advantage as the teams headed to the final frame, but a two run home run from Alyssa Brewer that scored Samantha Soley cut Green Bay's deficit to one run.
The Phoenix was unable to pull even with the Vikings, falling 4-3 as CSU picked up its first win in league play.
Kayla Schwebke was in the circle for Green Bay in the series opener and put in 6.0 innings of work while striking out eight batters and allowing four runs.
Cleveland State 1, Green Bay 0
The first five innings were scoreless for both squads in the second matchup of the doubleheader, but the host Vikings broke the tie in the sixth inning with the game's first run.
CSU's Aly Packish used a sacrifice-fly to plate Talia Minisall and grant the Vikings a 1-0 lead as the teams approached the final frame.
Green Bay was held scoreless in the seventh as Cleveland State held on for a 1-0 win and a sweep in Saturday's doubleheader.
Brittany Baneck pitched 6.0 innings for GB and allowed only a single run, with none being earned, and struck out three batters on the afternoon.
The Phoenix will wrap up the series against Cleveland State tomorrow at noon (CT).
