DAVIS, Calif. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) -- The Green Bay women's soccer team earned a victory over UC Davis (2-1) on Sunday afternoon at Aggies Soccer Field, besting the host 1-0. The Phoenix (3-1) applied consistent pressure, leading to an own goal after a shot from Ellie Vasey was saved and dropped into the Aggies' net by their keeper.
 
The win improved GB's overall record to 3-1 to notch the best start to a season since 2014 for the program. Green Bay also surpassed its win total from a season ago, as the Phoenix finished 2-13-1. Green Bay also handed UC Davis its first loss on the season, as the Aggies headed into the pairing with an unblemished 2-0 record and a five-goal differential.
 
Green Bay has also turned in its highest win total on the road since the 2014 season where GB tallied six.
 
UC Davis bested the Phoenix in shots and shots on goal in the pairing, but the Green Bay defense held strong. Courtney Klatt recorded five saves in the clean sheet victory and protected the net for all 90 minutes.
 
The shutout marks the third time this season where Green Bay has held its opponent scoreless, with St. Mary's scoring the lone goal of the season on the stifling Phoenix defense.
 
Green Bay will now shift its focus to its home opener against Northern State on Friday, September 6 at 7 p.m.
