GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay women's basketball team officially tipped off the 2019-20 campaign with its first practice on Wednesday afternoon at the Kress Center.
Head coach
Kevin Borseth enters his 33rd season, 16th with the Phoenix, in 2019-20 and boasts one of the best overall records in all of college basketball. Borseth ranks 19
th among division I women's basketball coaches in wins, owning an overall record of 713-275. His 713 wins also ranks 10th among active coaches.
The first practice also begins the countdown to Green Bay's season opener on Wednesday, Nov. 6, at Central Michigan. This marks the first time Green Bay opens the season on the road since 2014-15, when the Phoenix traveled to Marquette.
Green Bay is also slated to host two exhibitions prior to the season opener, beginning with Michigan Tech on Thursday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. The Phoenix will conclude its preseason on Wednesday, Oct. 30 when the team welcomes UW-Oshkosh for a 7 p.m. tip.
The Phoenix once again returns a talent-filled roster, led by a trio of seniors in
Frankie Wurtz,
Madison Wolf and
Mackenzie Wolf. Green Bay also returns key contributors
Karly Murphy and
Caitlyn Hibner who both missed the majority of last season due to injury.
Green Bay extended its streak of consecutive winning seasons to 42 in 2018-19, trailing only Tennessee (46) for the longest active winning-season streak in the nation. The Phoenix also tallied its 20
th-consecutive 20-plus win season last year, a streak dating back to 1999-00.
