DeKALB, Ill. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Clay Brown put Green Bay on top in the first half of Friday night's game at Northern Illinois, but the Huskies netted the equalizer in the 80th minute before the two teams ended in a 1-1 draw. The Phoenix move to 1-0-2 on the young season, and will host Western Michigan back at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Sunday (Sept. 8).
Brown gave his side the 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, finishing off a nice assist from
Andre Baires. It's Brown's now team-leading second goal of the season, giving the Phoenix at least one goal in all three matches of 2019.
GB held off NIU for the next 60 minutes, but Anthony Markanich found the back of the net to knot the game at 1-1. The two teams would grind out the final 10 minutes of regulation and 20 minutes of overtimes, eventually giving the Phoenix its second draw of the season.
NIU had 22 shots to Green Bay's 7, including a 7-2 edge in shots on goal. The Huskies also led in the corners category, 13-1.
Jamison Yoder had six saves in goal for the Phoenix.
GB will host the Broncos on Sunday afternoon for a 1 p.m. kickoff, before the team opens Horizon League at UIC on Sept. 14.
