GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – ESPN has made its wildcard selection for Friday, January 31, choosing
Green Bay versus Northern Kentucky for an 8 p.m. CT tip-off at the Kress Center. As part of the League's television agreement with ESPN, select Friday night's include a Horizon League matchup of ESPN's choosing, with the Phoenix being selected for a second-straight season.
Promotions for that game will include a $10 upper bowl ticket special, a Bud Light Night ($2 16 oz.) and will also serve as the GB Gear-Up Game for UWGB students. Students will receive a FREE GB flag, and will also be offered free Taco Bell courtesy of Tonn's Inc.
The theme for HL games on Friday night's this year will be "Anything Can Happen on Friday." Last season, GB beat UIC 63-62 in Chicago after trailing by 19 points at halftime in a game on ESPNU, a win that proved very important in terms of Horizon League Tournament seeding.
The game will part of a college basketball tripleheader on ESPNU, with GB and NKU playing in the nightcap. Harvard at Penn will be televised at 4 p.m. CT, followed by Bowling Green at Buffalo at 6 p.m. CT.
This will mark the fourth national TV game for GB this season, having played a pair on the Big Ten Network and visiting Xavier on FS2.
In 2018-19, the average margin of victory was five points and five of the six games ended as a two possession game in the HL contests featured on ESPN Friday nights. The addition of the wild card games will will help ensure the best match-ups possible. Nearly 70,000 households tuned in to Horizon League games on ESPN last season.
