GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- A late 22-4 run by visiting Northern Kentucky and a cold shooting night by the Phoenix handed Green Bay the 71-62 defeat on Friday night at the Kress Center. Green Bay (10-13, 5-5 HL) was looking to move into a second-place tie with the Norse (15-7, 7-3 HL), but shot just 34 percent (24-for-71) and was outscored 39-28 in the second half.
The Phoenix defense was locked in all night, holding NKU to 7-for-27 from 3 and just 22-for-61 from the field. The Norse did have 30 points in the paint and led on the fastbreak 16-8.
GB had four players finish in double-figures, led by
Amari Davis with 14 points and seven rebounds.
Trevian Bell added 12 points, while
JayQuan McCloud and
Cody Schwartz each finished with 11 points. McCloud was a rebound shy of a double-double finishing with nine rebounds. GB went just 5-for-22 from 3-point range in a game that saw eight lead changes.Â
The game swung in NKU's favor after GB led 53-47 with 9 minutes left, that's when the Norse used a 15-0 run to take a 62-53 lead that GB couldn't overcome. Overall, NKU closed the game on a 24-9 run.Â
Green Bay will host league-leading Wright State on Super Bowl Sunday in its next game, welcoming the Raiders for a 1 p.m. tip at the Resch Center.Â
