Box Score ROCHESTER, Mich. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay fell in its first road matchup of the Horizon League season, as Oakland claimed a 93-88 victory at the O'rena on Thursday night.
The game was back and forth following tip and eventually tied at 9-9. From there, the Phoenix pieced together a 13-4 run with six points contributed from senior
Frankie Wurtz to take control of the contest early. All told, Green Bay possessed a 24-16 advantage at the end of the first.
GB's lead increased to 10 points on the first basket of the second quarter, as
Lyndsey Robson finished a layup on a nice dish from Wurtz to put GB in front 26-16. Oakland began its run from that point as the Phoenix continued to stave off attempts, but eventually the Golden Grizzlies knotted the game at 36-all on a jumper from Kahlaijajh Dean with 3:02 remaining in the second.
The contest continued to go bucket for bucket as time expired on the half, with Oakland carrying a one-point edge into the locker room at 41-40.
After a jumper from
Karly Murphy went through the net, it seemed as though things were headed to the fourth quarter with only a point separating the two programs, but a deep three-pointer from Teneea Heston as the buzzer sounded increased OU's lead to 62-58.
Oakland held off the Phoenix in the final frame to secure a 93-88 win and snap a four-game winning streak for GB in the series between the programs.
The Phoenix had three players foul out in the contest, and with injuries mounting up, were forced to finish the game with only four players.
Both teams were nearly automatic at the free throw line on the evening, as the Phoenix finished 26-29 and the Golden Grizzlies shot 30-34.
Wurtz finished with a team-high 25 points and was joined in double figures by
Madison Wolf (16),
Anna Brecht (15) and
Karly Murphy (10). Wolf finished with her first double-double of the season, adding a career-high 18 rebounds to her 16 points.
Green Bay closes out its trip to Michigan on Saturday, as it takes on Detroit Mercy at Calihan Hall with tip-off slated for noon.
