GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) —- Green Bay took the hardwood against Milwaukee for the second time in consecutive days on Sunday, falling to its in-state rival after the Panthers pulled away in the fourth to earn a 59-51 victory.
Milwaukee's win brings the Panthers to 5-1, 2-0 HL on the season, while GB Falls to 1-4, 0-2 HL.
The first half of Sunday's game was dominated by the defenses of both programs, as the squads allowed for only one point of separation at the break with MKE leading 19-18.
The teams combined to shoot 14-of-60 in the opening half, as each team converted on only seven attempts from the floor.
Green Bay flipped the script in the third quarter and went 9-of-12 from the field highlighted by a 3-for-3 effort from long range, which was capped off by a lead-garnering triple from Caitlyn Hibner as time expired, granting GB a 39-38 edge.
Hibner finished with a team-leading 18 points and looked strong in her 31 minutes, despite being forced to miss the conclusion of Saturday's game due to injury.
Milwaukee was able to heat up down the stretch and took control of the game with a 17-2 run, leading to a 59-51 win.
Ellie Foster stepped up for GB and logged numerous career highs on the afternoon. The guard was able to reach double figures for the first time in her young career, scoring 10 points while burying a pair of 3-pointers and securing four rebounds in 31 minutes.
Green Bay was scheduled to play Youngstown State next weekend, but those games have been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the YSU program. Any updates to the Phoenix schedule will be released as they become available.
