GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- For the first time in nearly a month, the Green Bay women's basketball team returned to the friendly confines of the Kress Center in dominant fashion and secured a 72-45 victory over Detroit Mercy.
Â
GB's victory was highlighted by a total of four scorers in double figures for the Phoenix, led by
Caitlyn Hibner with a game-high 16 points.
Â
Green Bay was able to double up Detroit Mercy in the opening frame of Friday night's contest, benefitting from nine points off turnovers in the early action.
Hailey Oskey and
Caitlyn Hibner were the early leaders for GB's balanced attack, as the Phoenix had six total players score in the first.
Â
Â
A few turnovers led to a two-minute scoring drought for the Phoenix in the second quarter, but a layup from
Madison Wolf and block from
Mackenzie Wolf on consecutive possessions reignited the Phoenix offense. Green Bay converted on its next four possessions, including three layups from the Wolf sisters and a triple from Oskey to construct a 36-24 lead at the half.
Â
Green Bay allowed only two points the Titans in the first 5:53 of the third quarter and added to its lead with a 10-2 run. The Phoenix would extend its lead to 20 points, 53-33, as the teams headed to the fourth and final frame.
Â
The Phoenix put the finishing touches on a dominant performance in the final 10 minutes, notching its seventh-straight win over Detroit Mercy with a 72-45 victory.
Â
Next up for the Phoenix is its annual PinkZone game, which will take place on Sunday against Oakland at 1 p.m. The PinkZone jersey auction is now LIVE and fans can place their bids on authentic Green Bay PinkZone jerseys
