GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) - Green Bay Athletics is looking back on the successes of the 2019-20 season and celebrating the accomplishments of our respective teams and student-athletes.

Volleyball had quite the 2019 season, finishing 21-9 and being among the First Four Out for the NCAA tournament. The Phoenix earned the No. 3 seed in the Horizon League tournament, finishing inside the conference's top four for the fourth consecutive year in row. Along with the team success, there were a number of individual milestones achieved as well.

Best Moments – Volleyball
Green Bay opened the 2019 campaign with the GBD Invite at the Kress Center, where the Phoenix went 4-0, defeating Northeastern, Ohio, Fresno State and Indiana State to claim the tournament crown.

During the final match of the tournament against Indiana State, senior Maddie Yoss became only the second member in program history to record at least 4,000 assists. Yoss was named tournament MVP and juniors Anna Eaton and Taylor Wolf were tabbed to the all-tournament team.

Green Bay then headed east for the Champyinz Invitational, co-hosted by Duquesne and Pittsburgh. The squad opened 1-1, with a win over Duquesne and a loss to No. 10 nationally ranked Pittsburgh.

However, in the team's final match against Big Ten foe Ohio State, Green Bay took home the 3-1 victory, defeating a power-five school for the first time since 2015. Over the course of the weekend, Taylor Wolf notched her 1,000th kill, becoming only the seventh player in program history to do so.

The following weekend at the NDSU Classic, Green Bay downed Buffalo 3-0 to begin the tournament and secured their seventh victory of the young season. The 7-1 record tied the 2016 team for the best start in program history.

During Horizon League action, the Phoenix continued its success. The squad finished 12-4, one win short of Wright State, who finished 13-3, and claimed the No. 1 seed headed into the conference tournament.

Following the conclusion of the regular-season, Taylor Wolf and Maddie Yoss earned back-to-back Player of the Year and Setter of the Year awards from the Horizon League. Wolf was also named back-to-back Offensive Player of the Year.

In the Horizon League tournament, Green Bay defeated No. 6 seeded Oakland 3-0 and advanced to the semifinals for the fourth consecutive year in a row. Unfortunately, the Phoenix fell in the semis to Milwaukee.

Despite the season ending, Maddie Yoss collected AVCA North All-Region Honorable Mention and Taylor Wolf received a spot on the AVCA North All-Region Team. These two joined Janelle Tomlinson (2000-2003), Brittany Groth (2009-2012) and Lydia DeWeese (2014-2017) as the only members in program history to be honored by the AVCA. Wolf was later selected as an AVCA All-American Honorable Mention, becoming only the third player in program history to achieve this honor.

To round out the best moments of their 2019 season, Green Bay was declared by the AVCA as a top 50 team in the country for the first time in program history and finished 43rd in the NCAA's final RPI ranking, the highest finish in the program's history.
