MIAMI, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) —The Green Bay softball team split to open up the Miami Invite today.
Green Bay 9, Eastern Illinois 4
The Phoenix was hot to start the game, rattling off six runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded,
Kalyssa Koehn doubled to left centerfield to knock in
Randi McKay and
Tiffany Giese and advanced
Morgan Bihun to third.
Becca Edwards singled up the middle to bring in Koehn and Bihun to extend the lead to 4-0. Sam Soley then hit a two-run homer with Edwards on base to go up 6-0 to finish the scoring for GB in the first.
In the second inning, the Phoenix went up 7-0 after a double from
Rebecca Radtke scored Koehn.
Things began to get interesting late in the game when Eastern Illinois scored four runs in fifth inning to cut Green Bay's lead to 7-4.
However, the Phoenix responded in the sixth with Bihun doubling to right centerfield, bringing in McKay and Giese to go up 9-4. Eastern picked up a couple runs in the seventh, but
Kayla Schwebke finished her complete game by striking out the Panther batter to close the game for GB.
Miami (OH) 3, Green Bay 0
Unfortunately, Green Bay dropped their second game of the day to Miami (OH) by the final score of 0-3. The Redhawks picked up a run in the first, fifth and sixth innings and the Phoenix was unable to sustain the success at the plate like they did against the Panthers earlier in the day.
GB will be back at it tomorrow with another matchup with Eastern Illinois at 9:00 a.m. CT and with Miami (OH) at 11:30 a.m. CT.
