GREEN BAY --- Leon Ayers, who will be joining the Green Bay men's basketball program this coming season, was named a National Junior College Athletic Association Division II All-American this week. Playing at Henry Ford College in Michigan, Ayers averaged just over 21 points per game to rank 17th in the NJCAA.
Ayers will have two seasons of eligibility remaining at Green Bay, after netting six games with 30 or more points this past year, including a national attention creating 48-point game back on February 15. In that game, Ayers hit nine 3-pointers, which added to his season total where he averaged almost three made 3s a game.Â
When Ayers committed earlier this year, head coach
Linc Darner said, "Leon is one of the best shooters in junior college right now. He is a long distance shooter and can get on a roll at any point in the game. He is very long and athletic, and can play multiple positions for us. We identified him in recruiting as one of the best 3-point shooters, plus he can defend multiple positions on the court."
The 6-6 guard certainly lived up to that billing this past season. He also averaged 8.9 RPG, a rebound shy of averaging a double-double.
Ayers will join Ryan Claflin, Jacob Jones, Paris Taylor and Blayton Williams as the incoming class in 2020-21.Â
