Balanced Effort Propels Green Bay to Dominant Weekend Sweep

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay secured its fourth-straight win at home on Saturday, defeating Purdue Fort Wayne, 87-72, behind four double-digit scorers which included career highs from Japannah Kellogg III and Lucas Stieber.

The Phoenix weathered a hot start by PFW as the visitors jumped out to a 14-5 advantage behind a 6-of-7 opening effort from the field which included two triples.

Green Bay used its own run, 17-2, to battle back and eventually take control at 22-16 after eight points from Amari Davis and six from Josh Jefferson.

The Phoenix created separation to close the half with another run, 11-3, where it didn't allow Purdue Fort Wayne to make a field goal over a period of four minutes, nine seconds to lead things by double digits at the break, 43-33.

It was all gas in the second half from the Green and White as it continued to pull away from the Mastodons, building as much as a 25-point lead (79-54) with just over four minutes remaining in regulation.

PFW hit a few shots with the game well out of reach, but Green Bay still secured the weekend sweep with an 87-72 victory. The win gives GB a perfect 2-0 record against the Mastodons in the all-time series and brings its winning streak at home to four games.

Purdue Fort Wayne entered the weekend ranked first in the nation in 3-point percentage (43.9%) but was held to a combined 9-of-35 (25.7%) from long range on the weekend.

Jefferson led all scorers with 21 points on a 7-of-14 clip from the field and doled out four assists in 27 minutes. Davis added 18 while going a perfect 6-of-6 from the line, dishing out two assists and blocking two shots in 35 minutes.

Kellogg finished an efficient 6-of-7 from the field and recorded three and-ones to help him amass 15 points in 11 minutes. Stieber finished with 14 points and helped directed the Phoenix offense with five assists in 34 minutes.

PJ Pipes found himself in foul trouble so only saw 17 minutes but still added eight points to Green Bay's tally.

GB heads to Cleveland State next weekend for matchups with the Vikings on Friday, Saturday at the Wolstein Center. Tip-off of both games will be at 6 p.m. and streamed live on ESPN3.
