CLEVELAND, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay's seven-game winning streak was snapped at the hands of Cleveland State on Saturday morning, as the Vikings pulled away down the stretch to secure a 60-48 victory.
Â
Both offenses were slow to get going in the morning matchup, as the teams combined to shoot 3-of-19 from long range in the opening frame. Cleveland State's advantage was 12-9 at the end of the first, which the Phoenix quickly erased with a 6-0 run to start the second.
Â
GB finished off the half with a 15-5 run ignited by seven-straight points from seniors
Meghan Pingel and
Caitlyn Hibner, ultimately leading to a 30-23 advantage at the break.
Â
The hosts closed the third with a 9-2 run to take control and never looked back. Cleveland State scored first in the fourth to increase its advantage to double digits.
Â
The teams exchanged buckets as time continued to dwindle, with Green Bay lowering its deficit to single digits after a Hibner layup with 3:40 remaining. CSU's Isabelle Gradwell answered with a triple as the Vikings maintained a double-digit lead for the remainder of the matchup.
Â
CSU's 60-48 improved the team's record to 3-7 in league play, while Green Bay falls to 7-3.
Â
Hibner finished with a team-high 14 points in the matchup and was the lone double-digit scorer for Green Bay.
Â
The Phoenix returns home next weekend to face defending regular season and tournament champion, IUPUI.
