Green Bay Stays Hot in 2021, Dispatches Detroit Mercy 64-49 at Home

GREEN BAY --- Making it three-straight wins to open 2021, the Green Bay women's basketball team dispatched Detroit Mercy on Friday afternoon 64-49, led by a career-high 18 points from freshman Jasmine Kondrakiewicz and 18 assists as a team.

The Phoenix (3-2 HL, 4-4) led the entire way, scoring the first points and never looking back, leading by as many as 21 in the fourth quarter. The Phoenix outscored Detroit Mercy (1-6 HL, 1-10) in the paint 30-10, dominating inside much like it did last weekend at Oakland. Kondrakiewicz did her damage inside, scoring 14 of her 18 points inside.

Putting in another strong performance in a Phoenix uniform was Sydney Levy, who added 15 points off the bench and grabbed seven rebounds. Levy has scored in double-figures in all three games she's played and is now averaging 14.3 PPG over that span.
The second quarter proved to be the separator, with GB outscoring Detroit 16-7, taking a 34-19 lead into the break. The two teams carried that margin the final 20 minutes, knotting up at 30-30 in the second half.

Head coach Kevin Borseth spread out the minutes, with 9 players 15 minutes or more and six players playing over 20 minutes. Senior Caitlyn Hibner snagged another nine rebounds to lead the team, adding six points and four assists as well, but it was the GB bench that came through.

The GB bench scored half of the team's 64 points, with Levy's 15 and Cassie Schiltz (8p) and Patricia Gallasova (7p) combining for 15 as well. Gallasova had five assists and Schiltz added seven rebounds, while helping lock in defensively against the Titans.

Detroit shot just 31.4 percent and 15 turnovers, but did knock down 11 3-pointers which helped the visitors stay within striking distance. The Titans were led by Kaela Webb with 22 points on five made 3s.

GB is now 54-8 all-time against Detroit Mercy, with the two teams returning to the court again on Saturday for another 11 a.m. CT tip. The game can be watched on ESPN+.
