GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay volleyball team enters the 2021 Horizon League Tournament as the No. 5 seed, facing No. 4 seed UIC in the Quarterfinals on Friday night at 7 p.m. in Milwaukee. All matches will be played at the Klotsche Center on the campus of UW-Milwaukee, which earned the right to host the tournament after winning the regular season title. With a win over the Flames, GB will face either No. 1 seed Milwaukee or No. 2 seed Northern Kentucky in the semifinals depending on the results of the other Quarterfinal match between No. 3 seed Wright State and No. 6 seed Oakland.

REGULAR SEASON IN REVIEW
The Phoenix finished an even .500 on the season with a 15-15 record and a 10-8 record in the Horizon League, ending the regular season with a four-match winning streak. GB won each of its last three matches in five sets, with the final match at Robert Morris this past Sunday.
Alexandra Zakutney led the Phoenix offensively in HL play this year, averaging 3.37 kills per set with 32 service aces. Zakutney recorded 13 matches with 10 or more kills, including back-to-back matches with 20 kills or more to end the regular season.
BACK IN THE POSTSEASON
GB is back in the Horizon League Tournament again after not qualifying this past spring season, marking the third time in head coach
Abbey Sutherland's four-year career the team has made the tournament. In its most recent trip in 2019, GB fell in the Semifinals to Milwaukee, after knocking off Oakland 3-0. GB was the No. 3 seed that season, and finished in the first four out of the NCAA Tournament. Overall, GB has made five of the last six tournaments.
UIC REMATCH
With the Flames in the three-team scheduling pod with Green Bay (and Milwaukee) this year, the Phoenix and UIC only faced each other one time in Chicago. UIC won that match in straight sets, but it was just the third HL match for GB on the year. The Flames finished with an impressive 13-3 record in HL play, but did have two matches against the second and third place teams in Wright State and NKU canceled due to COVID-19 within the UIC program.
ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM
The Horizon League announced the #HLVB All-Academic Team Tuesday afternoon, with
Calli Gentry and
Alexandra Zakutney making the list after having outstanding years in the classroom and on the court for the Green Bay volleyball team.
Gentry has been one of the nation's leaders in assists all season long, frequently bouncing around the top-five in total assists. As of today, Gentry sits at 1,183 assists, the most in Division I. The Phoenix setter has played a huge role in the Phoenix four-game win streak to close the regular season. In the four contests she had 46, 49, 52, and 58 assists. Gentry is double major in Business Administration and Latin-American Studies and sports a 3.959 GPA.
Zakutney has also been a key cog for the Phoenix all season long. The redshirt-sophomore leads Green Bay with 381 kills, good for ninth most in the Horizon League. Zakutney also sits third in the Horizon League with 50 service aces, just six back from the league leader. Zakutney is coming off he best two-game stretch of the season, registering 20 kills and 13 digs in a 3-2 win over against Youngstown State, and 22 kills and 12 digs in a 3-2 win over Robert Morris. The Ontario, Canada native is a Human Biology major and maintains a 3.940 GPA.
