GREEN BAY, Wis. - Hailey Oskey scored 21 points to help lead the Green Bay women's basketball team over the Wright State Raiders 78-67 for their first Horizon League win on Saturday.
The Phoenix (2-2, 1-1) had two players score in double figures, led by Oskey's 21, also adding five assists, Brooklyn Blackburn also chipped in a career-high 15 points. Meghan Pingel totaled nine points and three steals.
Green Bay collected 34 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Wright State's 26. Bailey Butler and Blackburn each led the team with five. The Phoenix also cleaned up the offensive glass, turning 10 rebounds into 13 second chance points.
Green Bay forced 15 Wright State turnovers, resulting in 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Butler led the way individually with three steals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
After falling behind 8-3, Green Bay went on a 14-0 run with 7:37 left in the first quarter, culminating in a three from Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, to take a 17-8 lead. The Phoenix then maintained the lead and entered the quarter break with a 27-18 advantage. Green Bay capitalized on five Wright State turnovers in the period, turning them into eight points on the other end of the floor.
Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 12-0 run starting at the 7:26 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Callie Genke, to increase its lead to 43-27. The Phoenix proceeded to tack on one point to that lead and enjoyed a 49-32 advantage heading into halftime. Green Bay dominated in the paint, scoring 16 of its 22 points close to the basket.
The Phoenix continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 6-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Sydney Levy, to expand its lead further to 59-44 with 1:28 to go in the third. Before the third period was over, the Phoenix added two points to that lead and entered the fourth quarter with a 64-47 edge. Green Bay played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 15 points in the paint.
Green Bay kept its lead intact before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by a Pingel layup, to grow the lead to 75-54 with 6:05 to go in the contest. Wright State narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Phoenix still cruised the rest of the way for the 78-67 win. Green Bay got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring six of its 14 total points.

The Phoenix will travel to Las Vegas over Thanksgiving, taking part in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. Green Bay will play Oklahoma State and SMU before beginning December with two consecutive HL road games. The next home game is Thursday, December 16 against Chicago State.
