GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay volleyball team survived a Cleveland State comeback en route to a 3-2 win (25-17, 25-13, 22-25, 23-25, 15-12) against the Vikings Friday at the Kress Events Center.
The victory improved Green Bay's record to 13-15 overall and 8-8 in Horizon action. The Phoenix win also helps Green Bay with a potential HL Tournament berth. Green Bay currently has the sixth seed, and is just a game and a half back from Oakland for the five seed.
The Phoenix were led by Shannon Coughlin, who registered a season-high 20 kills. Green Bay was also aided by double-doubles from both Iro Chounta, who had 10 kills and 12 digs, and Alexandra Zakutney, who finished with 13 kills and 16 digs. On the defensive end, Cora Behnke chipped in with 11 digs to go with four blocks from Tiffany Paalman.

HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1 | The Phoenix took control of the first set at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way to win, 25-17. Green Bay opened up its biggest lead, eight points, to finish off the set. Green Bay also supplemented their offense with five aces in the opening set.
SET 2 | Green Bay swiftly took set two, 25-13, to grab a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix took control of the set thanks to a 9-2 run that extended their lead from five to eleven. From there, Green Bay held serve to take the frame.
SET 3 | Cleveland State stayed alive with a set-three win to make it a 2-1 match. The Phoenix came up short by the score of 25-22. Cleveland State grabbed the advantage for good at 19-18 in a set that was tied up 11 times before the Vikings took over in the second half of the stanza.
SET 4 | Green Bay then dropped their second straight set 25-23 to bring the match level at two sets apiece. Cleveland State rallied back from a 6-0 deficit, and scored five of the sets final eight points to close it out.
SET 5 | The fifth set was a back-and-forth affair that started with a 4-0 Vikings lead. The Phoenix responded with an 11-4 run to grab an 11-8 advantage before Cleveland State answered with a 4-1 run of their own to tie the set at 12. The Phoenix closed the set and the match thanks to kills from Chounta and Zakutney, as well as an ace from Zoi Sherolli.
UP NEXT
GB will hit the road next weekend for their final regular season #HLVB matches. On Friday, Nov. 12 they'll travel to Youngstown State, before taking on Robert Morris on Sunday, Nov. 14.
