SERIES HISTORY
Green Bay has never played against Robert Morris. The Colonials joined the Horizon League before the 2020-21 season, but GB was one of several teams in the HL who didn't face RMU a season ago. Youngstown State had to cancel both games against the Phoenix last year due to Covid-19. The last time the two teams faced off was February 29, 2020, when GB defeated the Penguins 71-51. The Phoenix owns a 41-4 record against YSU all-time.
A FAMILIAR FACE
Youngstown State Head Coach John Barnes was the Green Bay Associate Head Coach from 2012-2013, the same year head coach
Kevin Borseth returned to Green Bay. The Phoenix went 31-3 that season and made the NCAA tournament before barely losing to the LSU Tigers 75-71. Barnes also coached with the Wisconsin Badgers from 2010-2011 as an assistant.
NUMBERS GAME
With Green Bay's 57-54 victory over Oklahoma State last Friday, Head Coach
Kevin Borseth notched another career milestone. The legendary coach reached 750 wins all-time in his coaching career. Borseth needs 12 more wins to reach 450 wins all-time in his career with GB.
FRESHMAN PHENOM
Maddy Schreiber, an Appleton, Wis. native, has started her Phoenix career strong. Off the bench, she is the second-leading scorer on the team (8.5 points per game), shooting 50.0-percent from the field (14-of-28), which is tied for second on the team with
Meghan Pingel. Schreiber is also contributing in a big way on the glass, collecting 4.3 rebounds per contest.
BAILEY BUCKETS
Bailey Butler, another true freshman, is finding her role on the GB squad. Butler's five made threes are tied for second-most, and her 16 three-point attempts are third-most on GB. She is also tied for fifth-most minutes, averaging 22.2 per game.
SYDNEY STRETCHIN' THE FLOOR
Junior
Sydney Levy plays a large role stretching the floor for the Phoenix. The guard leads the Phoenix with 26 three-point attempts, and has the second-most field goal attempts with 45, despite playing 22.2 minutes per game. Levy has also snatched the second-most rebounds with 25 (4.2 RPG).
OUTSTANDING OSKEY
Hailey Oskey continues to be a force for the Phoenix this season. The junior from Seymour, Wisconsin leads all GB players with 10.8 points per game and 48 field goal attempts. Oskey is an astounding 20-23 (86.9%) at the charity stripe and is shooting a fair 30.9 percent from beyond the arc.
ON THE HORIZON
Green Bay opens Horizon League play against the Colonials and Penguins before playing three consecutive non-conference games. The Phoenix will dive back into HL play for good during their four-game homestand when they take on Detroit Mercy and Oakland.
FRESH PHOENIX FACES
Green Bay welcomes four true freshmen to the 2021-22 squad. Calli Genke,
Bailey Butler,
Jenna Guyer, and
Maddy Schreiber make up the 2021-22 recruiting class. Genke and Schreiber are local recruits.
• Genke prepped at Freedom High School where she was a two-time First Team All-Conference selection, as well as a two-time all-state team selection.
• Schreiber prepped at Kimberly High School where she was twice named Second Team All-Conference, once first team all-conference, and received an all-state honorable mention selection as well.
RETURNING MINUTES
Green Bay returns three of its five main starters from a 2020-21 season that saw the team finish third in the Horizon with a 14-4 conference record.
Meghan Pingel,
Hailey Oskey, and
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz are the three starters returning.
• Pingel will play a large role for the Phoenix, particularly on the defensive side of the ball. Last year, she started in all 22 games and swiped a team-high 42 steals. On the offensive end, she averaged 5.2 points per game and 4.9 assists per game.
• Last season, Oskey started in all 16 games she appeared in, averaging 7.9 points and 3.0 rebounds per game.
• Kondrakiewicz offers a big presence for the Phoenix inside, scoring 7.5 points per game and blocked a team-high 19 shots last season.
