Phoenix Powers Past Wisconsin 63-53

MADISON, Wis. – The Green Bay women's basketball team never trailed after jumping out to an early lead en route to a 63-53 win over in-state rival Wisconsin on Sunday at the Kohl Center. The Phoenix is now 2-0 against Power Five teams this season.

Hailey Oskey led the Phoenix (5-4) with 14 points and two steals. Maddy Schreiber also tacked on eight points and nine rebounds from the bench and Butler helped out with nine points and three steals off of the bench.

Led by Schreiber's three offensive rebounds, Green Bay did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 11 boards that resulted in four second chance points.

The Green Bay defense held Wisconsin shooters to just 37.5 percent from the field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Green Bay started out the scoring by going on an 11-0 run, culminating in a three from Cassie Schiltz, to take an early lead with 6:52 left in the first quarter. The Phoenix then added one point to that lead by the end of the period and entered the quarter break with a 23-11 advantage. Green Bay relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots to account for 12 of its 23 points.

Green Bay kept its first quarter lead intact before going on a 7-0 run starting at the 4:45 mark in the second period to increase its lead to 30-19. The Phoenix kept that lead for the remainder of the period and enjoyed a 32-21 advantage heading into halftime. Green Bay was strong from deep in the period, knocking down two three-point shots to account for six of its nine points.

Green Bay continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a three from Schreiber, to expand its lead further to 43-28 with 3:12 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Badgers had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Phoenix still entered the fourth quarter with a 47-36 edge.

The Phoenix then held on for the victory in the fourth quarter. Green Bay took advantage of six Wisconsin turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of those takeaways.

» Green Bay found success from beyond the arc, knocking down nine treys in the game.
» The Phoenix put on a passing clinic, recording an assist on 76 percent of made baskets.
» The Green Bay bench made an impact by adding 33 points to its scoring output. The Wisconsin bench didn't score any points.
» The Green Bay defense forced 20 turnovers.
» Green Bay got a team-high nine rebounds from Maddy Schreiber.
» Cassie Schiltz chipped in with eight points, two rebounds, and two assists.

GB will come home to host Chicago State on Thursday, Dec. 16 at the Kress Center, tip is slated for 7 p.m. Following, the Phoenix will host Central Michigan on Monday, Dec. 20.
