INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Horizon League announced Friday that the Green Bay-Oakland women's basketball game scheduled for Saturday, Jan. 1 has been canceled.

The announcement follows positive COVID-19 tests within Oakland's tier I individuals.

Horizon League policy, vetted by multiple membership groups and approved by the Horizon League Council, states that contests that are canceled due to COVID-19 are to be considered forfeits unless deemed a no contest by the Commissioner. League policy authorizes the Commissioner to deem a cancellation a no-contest when the involved institution can demonstrate that extraordinary circumstances led to the cancellation. Given the surge in positive cases due to the Omicron variant, the Council agreed that a high volume of breakthrough cases among vaccinated individuals is considered extraordinary.

Oakland sought to deem missed competition on January 1 a no contest since it is unable to field a team due to breakthrough cases among vaccinated student-athletes. Commissioner Julie Roe Lach granted the requested relief noting that it satisfied the extraordinary standard.

Fans who purchased single-game tickets for this game can be refunded. Season ticket holders will have the option to exchange their tickets for a future regular season game this season or can be refunded upon request.

Fans who requested a refund for the Chicago State or Detroit Mercy cancellation will automatically be added to our refund list for this cancellation as well.

Contact the Phoenix Ticket Office at 920-465-2625 or simply email phoenixtickets@uwgb.edu to request the refund. Ticket holders who do not request an exchange or refund for this game will have the value of their tickets go to support Phoenix Athletics.

Although no game will be played at the Kress Center on Saturday, Green Bay is currently exploring other options to play this weekend.
