GREEN BAY --- The second half was a different story than the first on Friday afternoon, as the Green Bay women's basketball team dominated 45-19 in the final 20 minutes in route to an 80-56 win over UIC at the Kress Center. GB (11-4 HL) trailed by two at the half, but shot 60 percent (18-30) and hit seven 3s against the Flames (1-10 HL) after that, with UIC going 1-for-10 from beyond the arc after hitting seven in the first half.
The 3-point spark in the second half was made by
Sydney Levy, who hit a career-high 5 3s before finishing with 17 points, another career-high in a Phoenix uniform. GB opened the second half on an 8-0 run, and UIC answered to tie the game at 43-43. It was all the home team after that, finishing the quarter on a 13-2 run to go up 11.
The fourth quarter was much the same for GB, who used a 15-0 run to dominate the Flames and remove any doubt created from the first half. The result was its second-largest win in a game this season, cruising to a 24-point victory.
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tied her career-high combined with 12 rebounds, earning her first double-double of the freshman's young career. Kondrakiewicz finished a scorching 9-for-13 from the field, registered there steals and added a pair of blocks. The Milwaukee-native was at her best in the paint, dominating the glass and finishing with touch all game.
Three other Phoenix players finished in double figures, with
Caitlyn Hibner putting in 16 points and seven rebounds worth of work.
Lyndsey Robson added 10 points with a pair of 3s, helping GB finish with 12 as a team.
Senior guard
Meghan Pingel played another stout game defensively, and controlled the offense as usual. Pingel added nine assists, seven points and a pair of steals.
GB had 20 second-chance points thanks to 20 offensive rebounds. The Phoenix also dominated in the paint, scoring 40 points inside to UIC's 22.
The Flames were led by Kristian Young with 17 points and five assists. Lindsey Rogers added 14 points.
The two teams will tangle again tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT in Green Bay's final home game of the regular season.
