Gillie Named Coach of the Year, Liu Garners Swimmer of the Meet to Wrap #HLSD Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. --- The final day of the Horizon League Swimming and Diving Championships brought many stellar performances as well as accolades. Head coach Eddie Gillie was named the men's swimming coach of the year and Anna Liu collected swimmer of the meet honors after a trio of first place finishes.

"I can't put into words how proud I am of all of these student-athletes," said Gillie "We had almost 100% of the team with lifetime bests at the meet, which is an amazing accomplishment. This was one of the most difficult seasons of these athlete's lives and they came out better than anyone could have predicted! Four conference champions and female swimmer of the meet is an amazing feat, and all of the accolades and success these athletes achieved this season are well-deserved!!"

Women's 1650 Freestyle
Grace Morgan finished 9th with a time of 17:48.98 and Logan Johnsen touched 12th 17:51.92.

Women's 200 Backstroke
Jenna Vaaler finished 12th with a time of 2:05.79.

Men's 200 Backstroke
Sebby Smolecki finished 12th 1:48.72. Calvin Kremer finished 8th overall and tied our freshman record in prelims with a time of 1:48.34.

Women's 100 Freestyle
Anna Liu dominated her way to another gold and a new program record of 49.80. She is the first woman in program history to break the 50-second barries.

Men's 100 Freestyle
Ben Redman claimed third team conference honors with a time of 44.10.

Women's 200 Breaststroke
Malynn Tarczewski finished 10th with a 2:20.99 and freshman Ellen Anderson finished 12th with a time of 2:23.72.

Men's 200 Breaststroke
Max Boehnlein finished 4th with a time of 1:58.55. In the consolation final, Ryan Ramminger finished 14th with a time of 2:07.36 and Didac Silva finished 16th with a 2:09.79.

Women's 200 Butterfly
Senior Kate Vanderhoef took home bronze with a time of 2:04.02 and fellow senior Ciana Fragnito finished 4th with a time of 2:04.56. Maddy Albert-Nelson finished 11th with a 2:06.45 and fellow freshman Alli Misialek finished 12th with a 2:08.28.

Men's 200 Butterfly
Sophomore Jordan Sopjes finished 5th with a time of 1:48.96.

Women's 400 Freestyle Relay
Anna Liu, Jacqui Rude, Alli Misialek, and Kate Vanderhoef touched 6th with a time of 3:30.91.

Men's 400 Freestyle Relay
Ben Redman, Max Boehnlein, Carson Beals, and Sebby Smolecki touched 5th with a time of 3:00.97.

Anna Liu won Horizon League Female swimmer of the meet after three individual wins, She touched the pad first in the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 freestyle.
