GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay softball team honored senior Bailey Schultz in the regular season finale against IUPUI on Saturday afternoon, as the Phoenix earned a split with the Jaguars. Green Bay finishes the regular season at 23-21, marking the first time since 2014 season GB secured a winning season.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 4, IUPUI 3
The Green Bay Phoenix needed eight innings to finish the job, but secured the 4-3 extra-innings win, walking it off on IUPUI's error with sophomore Brittany Baneck at the plate to claim victory over the IUPUI Jaguars Saturday.
Baneck (11-4) got the win for Green Bay (23-20, 18-17). The right-hander went eight innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on nine hits, allowing five walks and striking out six.
Offensively, the Phoenix were paced by freshman Jadin Justman, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Samantha Saloun compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Baneck also chipped in for Green Bay, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix were trailing 1-0 in the first inning when they first put runs on the board. Green Bay scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Justman.
The Phoenix lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 3-2. Saloun came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay, which evened the score at 3-3.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the eighth, when Green Bay walked it off on IUPUI's error with Baneck at the plate that brought home freshman Hailey Heckenlaible.

The Green Bay Phoenix fell 3-2 in a nine-inning matchup to the IUPUI Jaguars Saturday.
Freshman Gabby Paliska (1-8) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay (23-21, 18-18). The right-hander went nine innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits, allowing one walk and striking out six.
In the batter's box, the Phoenix were led by freshman Jadin Justman, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Junior Morgan Bihun put together a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-5 with a double. Sophomore Tiffany Giese also chipped in for Green Bay, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the second inning. Bihun came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay and get them on the board.
The score stayed at 1-1 until the very next inning, when the Phoenix put runs on the scoreboard once again. Green Bay pushed across a run on Justman's two-out RBI double, which brought the score to 2-1 in favor of the Phoenix. The Phoenix were unable to hold the lead, as IUPUI scored two times over the remaining six innings to grab the 3-2 win.
