Green Bay Volleyball Unveils 2021 Schedule

7/13/2021 11:02:00 AM

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- With Green Bay volleyball's 38th season on the horizon, the 2021 schedule has been announced by head coach Abbey Sutherland.

The Phoenix has 30 regular season contests scheduled during the 2021 campaign – including 13 matches in the friendly confines of the Kress Center.

"Our overall non-conference schedule is going to be surprising at times, as it's difficult to predict how teams will be after the unorthodox spring season," said Sutherland.

GB kicks off the 2021 campaign with the Green Bay Invite – playing four matches in two days. The Phoenix season opener is against Ball State on Aug. 27 before returning to the court the same day to face North Dakota State. Green Bay closes out the invite on Aug. 28 with matches against St. Thomas and Northern Iowa.

"The fact that we get to open up our season in the Kress Events Center is beyond thrilling. Our fans have been waiting patiently to watch our talented women in person, and they get an opportunity right off the bat!"

The Phoenix is on the road the remainder of its non-conference season, with three matches in Abilene, Texas, three in Grand Forks, N.D., and a pair in Dekalb, Ill. on Sept. 16 and 17.

"We look forward to traveling to Abilene Christian, Texas to experience a different region and create a memorable student-athlete experience. Our women will represent Green Bay with class and I guarantee you we gain some Texan fans."

Green Bay's neutral site matchup on Sept. 17 in Dekalb, Ill., will be its final of the non-conference season and the Phoenix will take on Wisconsin.

"Our team is always up for challenges, and playing Wisconsin at Northern Illinois is definitely one of them. We need fans to travel and show their love and support for their team!"

The regular season conference schedule consists of 18 matches in which each member institution will play each other at least once.

"Our league was ranked 6th of all conferences at the end of our last true season in 2019. This speaks highly to the quality of coaches and student-athletes in our league. As fans, I would expect to watch a ton of highly competitive matches, and be on the lookout for big non-conference wins in our league. Green Bay Volleyball is eager to represent the Horizon League by competing against some of the best teams in division I. We are excited to do so with fans in the stands, and we are looking forward to hearing you cheer on the Phoenix!"

The Horizon League slate opens on Sept. 23 with a trip to Purdue Fort Wayne on tap for Green Bay. The Phoenix will continue its road trip with matches at IUPUI (Sept. 24) and UIC (Sept. 28).

Green Bay welcomes Northern Kentucky to the Kress Center on Oct. 1, which is followed by a pairing with defending champion Wright State on Oct. 3.

GB's remaining road matchups include Cleveland State (Oct. 7), Oakland (Oct. 10), Northern Kentucky (Oct. 29), Wright State (Oct. 31), Youngstown State (Nov. 12) and Robert Morris (Nov. 14).

Green Bay will also welcome Youngstown State (Oct. 14), Robert Morris (Oct. 15), Purdue Fort Wayne (Oct. 22), IUPUI (Oct. 24), Milwaukee (Oct. 25), Oakland (Nov. 4), Cleveland State (Nov. 5).

The Horizon League Championship will be held from Nov. 19-21 with the regular season champion and No. 1 seed earning the right to host.
