Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Meyer's Career-High Paces Phoenix in Win over Detroit Mercy

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Three players scored in double figures to pace the Green Bay men's basketball team en route to a 70-63 victory over Detroit Mercy at the Resch Center on Thursday. The Phoenix has won two of its last three games.

The Phoenix (4-13, 3-5) were led by Cade Meyer's new career-high of 16 points on an efficient 7-of-13 shooting. Donovan Ivory tacked on 13 points off of the bench, all in the second half and Japannah Kellogg III helped out with 12 points and seven rebounds. Green Bay shared the ball well in Thursday's game, racking up 19 assists, with Lucas Stieber pacing the Phoenix with six assists. Meyer and Ivory each pulled down five rebounds, with Kellogg racking up seven of his own.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After a tug-of-war start, Green Bay grabbed a 19-11 after a Kellogg jump shot at 14:03 left in the first half. The Phoenix would continue to extend its lead, going up by 10 after Nate Jenkins drained a three to make it 31-21 with 5:36 left in the half. Detroit Mercy would claw back, outscoring the Phoenix 11-6 to end the half, but Green Bay still lead by six heading into the break, 38-32.

Detroit Mercy came out of the intermission strong, eventually taking the lead after Antoine Davis, the nation's leading scorer, sank a long three to make it 48-47. That was one of just two three-pointers Davis made, as Green Bay held him to 2-of-13 shooting from beyond the arc. Facing a 54-51 deficit with 7:44 left in the game, Green Bay, and more specifically Ivory came alive. From that point, GB finished the game on a 19-9 run which included 13 points from Ivory. The redshirt-sophomore iced the game, going 8-for-8 down the stretch from the free-throw line.
