Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Balanced Offense Leads Green Bay to Dominant Win at UIC

CHICAGO, Ill. - The Green Bay women's basketball team used a balanced scoring attack to put away the UIC Flames on Saturday, 75-38. All 11 players that got on the floor for the Phoenix scored.

The Phoenix (8-5, 4-3) had three players score in double figures, led by Cassie Schiltz, who had 15 points, six rebounds, four assists and three steals. Hailey Oskey tacked on 12 points and Brooklyn Blackburn chipped in as well with 10 points.

The Green Bay defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 14 UIC turnovers while committing only six on the offensive end. Those takeaways turned into 20 points on the other end of the floor. Schiltz's three steals led the way individually for the Phoenix. GB was a problem for UIC on the glass, as the Phoenix collected 25 offensive rebounds in the game.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Green Bay was able to dominate the game from the get-go, jumping out to a 21-7 advantage after an 8-0 run that culminated in a bucket from Callie Genke put GB up 14. The Phoenix then maintained that lead and entered the quarter break with a 23-9 advantage. Green Bay relied on its three-point shooting in the period, knocking down four shots from downtown to account for 12 of its 23 points.

Green Bay built that first quarter lead to 32-15 before going on a 6-0 run starting at the 4:37 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Jasmine Kondrakiewicz, to increase its lead to 38-15. The Flames cut into that lead, but the Phoenix still took a 40-19 advantage into halftime. Schiltz had 11 of her 15 in the first half.

Following intermission, the Phoenix continued to expand its advantage, pushing it to 46-21 before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Oskey, to expand its lead further to 53-21 with 4:24 to go in the third. The Phoenix held onto that lead for the rest of the frame and entered the fourth quarter with a 57-25 edge.

The Phoenix did a good job holding off the Flames in the fourth, outscoring the hosts 18-13 in the final frame. GB did work inside in the fourth, scoring 14 of their 18 points in the painted area.
