Green Bay Wins Fourth Straight, Sweeps Youngstown State to Open Weekend

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -- Shannon Coughlin registered her fourth-straight match with double-digit (11) kills to lead the Green Bay volleyball team past Youngstown State on the road Friday night. The Phoenix has now won four-straight matches, and ten-straight sets. The victory improved Green Bay's record to 18-7 overall and 9-2 in Horizon League action.

Alexandra Zakutney finished with nine kills and five digs, while Angie Gromos finished with eight kills on a .800 hitting percentage. On the defensive side, GB got 10 digs from Annelise Sparks along with eight blocks from Gromos and five from Cora Behnke. Calli Gentry finished the match with 36 assists.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SET 1 | The Phoenix grabbed the first three points in the first set and never looked back, eventually winning 25-19. Green Bay led by as many as seven points at 21-14. Green Bay had three aces in the set.

SET 2 | Green Bay again grabbed the first points in the second set, and never trailed en route to a 25-18 set victory. Green Bay's front row had a solid defensive performance, blocking six Youngstown State attacks in the stanza and capitalizing on 12 Youngstown State attacking errors.

SET 3 | GB closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing set three. The Phoenix ended on a high note, claiming its biggest lead, eight points, to close out the set, collecting 16 kills along the way. Green Bay's front row had another solid defensive performance, blocking four Youngstown State attacks in the frame.

» Green Bay never trailed in any set.
» Zoi Sherolli and Gentry had a team-high two aces.
» Gromos' eight blocks were a match-high.
» The Green Bay front row did a great job defensively, picking up 12 blocks in the match.
» GB finished the match with a hitting percentage of .372, while the Penguins finished .079.
