GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team stayed unbeaten at Aldo Santaga Stadium Sunday afternoon, shutting out the Cleveland State Vikings 1-0. The win improved Green Bay's record to 3-7-2 overall and 1-3-2 in Horizon play.
The Phoenix will look to climb the Horizon League standings in the final stretch of the season, with three of their four remaining games being played in Green Bay.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix jumped out to a 1-0 lead early when a clearance from inside their own box found Emily Murphy near half. Murphy collected the ball, made a defender miss, and played in a sprinting Zoey Pagels who calmly slotted it past the Vikings keeper with her left foot. Pagels nearly scored a brace just seven minutes later, but a goal-line clearance from Cleveland State kept the lead at one.
The Vikings would threaten at points throughout the rest of the first half and the second, but freshman goalkeeper
Payton Lang made several key saves to keep the Phoenix on top.
GAME NOTES
- Payton Lang recorded three saves for the Phoenix.
- Green Bay recorded two shots on goal, both by Pagels.
- The Vikings outshot the Phoenix 13 to 3.
- Despite having 13 shots, the Vikings put just three on frame.
- Both teams had 10 fouls.
- Cleveland State had five corner kicks to GB's two.
