GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay women's soccer team fell 1-0 at home to IUPUI Thursday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium. The Phoenix dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 1-4-2 in Horizon League action with the loss.
Green Bay has three more games to try to grab a spot in the top six of the HL standings and berth in the Horizon League Championships. The Phoenix currently has five points while sixth-place Oakland has nine. Green Bay will play two of its final three games at home.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Jaguars struck first in the 21st minute when Maya Lacognato scored her Horizon League-leading seventh goal, assisted by Sam Slimak. Both the Jaguars and Phoenix had six shots in the first half, but GB couldn't find the back of the net with theirs.
Green Bay pushed for a second-half goal but ultimately fell short. Payton Lang got her second-straight start in goal and led Green Bay with two saves. The Phoenix totaled nine shots in the loss, two of them on goal. Green Bay faced 12 IUPUI shots, three of them on goal.
GAME NOTES
- The Jaguars had four corner kicks to GB's one.
- IUPUI committed nine fouls while GB had 10.
UP NEXT
GB will hit on the road to Fort Wayne, Indiana to take on the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons on Sunday, October 16 at noon. The Mastodons currently sit second in the Horizon League standings with 12 points. Following, the Green & White will return home for their final two games of the regular season, Northern Kentucky on Saturday, Oct. 22, and Milwaukee on Wednesday, Oct. 26.
